Artist Statement
I have spent over four decades immersed in every level of fine art, and somewhere along the way, photography became the place where all of it lives together.
My images come from my life outside the studio. Skiing, cycling, walking in nature with my family. These are not escapes from my work; they are where my work finds me. I move through the world with the same attention I bring to a 17th century oil painting, noticing light, noticing detail, noticing the quiet weight a single moment can carry.
I believe empathy is at the heart of any truly creative act. You have to feel something before you can make someone else feel it. That belief has shaped my entire career as a conservator, and it shapes every photograph I take.
Decades of living alongside great works of art have given me an uncommon understanding of composition, light, and what makes an image endure. I carry all of that with me, whether I am in the studio or out in the world with a camera.
My photography is an ode to the moments that surround us, the ones that ask us to slow down, lean in, and pay attention.
